Welcome to Samantha French + Aaron Hauck’s OMG Art Faire booth

Aaron Hauck

Aaron Hauck is a master draftsman and doesn’t let that get in the way of making exciting, complex and plastic figurative paintings. Hauck’s paint handling and process are rooted in a tradition that call to mind Fairfield Porter or Euan Uglow. The palette is often high key which keeps the work looking modern and never nostalgic. Hauck’s paintings are the experience of his surroundings, from social events to empty rooms. You can hear the spaces change from painting to painting. The paintings of social events e.g. Conversation or New Year’s Eve, his figures are often in motion, repeated or stuttering on the canvas. This brings an abstraction to the scene and energy to the compositions. Hauck wants us to see the materials used; pencil, paint, grids, and ground. He wants us to be aware of process, notice the remnants of old ideas and ghost of figures repositioned. Hauck isn't trying to hide anything in his work, he is trying to help us see it.

Aaron Hauck is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), he lived and worked in NYC for the last decade and is currently based in the Hudson Valley. Hauck actively exhibits his work and was most recently honored to be included in the Samuel Dorsky Museum “New Folk” exhibition.

SAMANTHA FRENCH

Samantha French’s poolscapes shimmer and vibrate with patterned segments of intense color and barely paused, floating movement. This is achieved with the distinctive combination of appearing absolutely real to the eye while being a very obvious quilt of painted pigment on canvas. French manages to convey playfulness and the eternally exuberant freedom of summer, the cool loosening from the heavy world around us of heat and gravity, slipping into a sparkling dream. these paintings are emotionally and physically both buoyant an joyous.

Samantha French graduated from the Minneapolis college of Art and Design in 2005. These days find her recreating the tranquility and nostalgia of those lost summer days from her Hudson Valley studio. French actively exhibits her paintings and is included in many private and public collections internationally and nationally, while her work has garnered extensive press. Samantha was most recently honored with solo and group exhibitions at the Myrtle Beach Art Museum, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art.
